Contact and Mediation Pre and Post-Adoption

For birth mothers, fathers or grandparents who are in the process of losing or have lost a child to adoption, adoptive parents or professionals, the Post-Adoption Centre's Contact and Mediation Service can support all aspects of contact between adopted children and their relatives.

The Centre firmly believes that adopted children benefit from parents being in agreement rather than in conflict, and that agreements made between birth relatives, adoptive parents and carers are more likely to last than imposed arrangements. Skilled mediators offer a neutral, confidential and supportive atmosphere where parents can explore issues and concerns and reach their own arrangements, independent of statutory agencies.
The Service can provide help with negotiating letterbox arrangements, re-opening contact for older children, support during contact visits and consultation with children about their wishes, both before and after adoption. For more information about our Birth Parents and Relatives service please contact us.
