Training for Adopted Adults

    Theme
Are you thinking about a reunion with your birth mother, birth father, birth siblings or birth relatives? Reunion is a big step and has consequences for all parties to adoption: some good, some not so good. PAC finds that adopted adults who give themselves the opportunity to consider the outcomes before the reunion tend to be better able to deal with what emerges.

    Aims
To assist participants: to explore reunion from a variety of angles (the fantasy, the reality, the disappointment, the "honeymoon" period, Genetic Sexual Attraction and so on); to prepare for reunion by thinking through questions such as 'is 18 too young?', 'what support do I need?', 'what if . . .?'; to think through how you and others (spouses, lovers, adoptive parents) might be affected by your reunion.

    Who should attend
Adopted adults who have not, as yet, had a reunion but who are planning to.
    Date: Saturday 12 July 2008

To assist participants, in the company of others: to explore the joys, the woes, the highs, the lows of your reunion; look at what happens in reunions; to examine what is making you anxious about the relationship and why; To help you work on strategies that may help your reunion.

    Theme
You've done it: you've met birth Mum and/or birth Dad, brother, sister, relative. What a disappointment it's turned out to be! Things have not gone according to plan and you are left to deal with the consequences. In the safety of a small group who share your predicament, this workshop will help you explore some of the issues around a second (or third, or fourth...) rejection.

    Aims
To assist participants to share their story with others; to provide a safe space to consider why/how things fell apart.

    Who should attend

This is a five-week programme for adults who identify as African, Caribbean, Black, Asian, multi or bi-racial in origin who have been transracially adopted or long term fostered.

    • Have you reconnected with your birth family but are finding it difficult to manage the relationship?
    • This group is designed to allow a safe space for people like yourself to explore these, and other, dilemmas and help you to discover some strategies to manage them as you go through life.
