    Theme
    Many adopted children's behaviour is at odds with their chronological age.
    This one-day interactive workshop for parents and professionals will explore these developmental discrepancies and provide appropriate ways of responding to age-inappropriate behaviour.
     
    Aims
    To discuss: the ways in which parents and professionals currently interpret and respond to a variety of behaviours; placing the developmental age of behaviours.
    To offer: a template for responding to age-inappropriate behaviours, exemplified with role-play.
    To analyse: the gaps in the child's development in order to assist understanding of the meaning of behaviours and guide further parenting interventions.

    Adoptive and foster parents who want to learn how to help their children overcome developmental delays; Adoption professionals.

    Theme
    From the start, talking to adopted and fostered children about their histories is extremely important: however, it can be difficult! This workshop is designed to help you think about how you can talk to your children about their adoption and related issues.
     
    Aims
    To explore why keeping secrets about their history does not serve the adopted or
    fostered child. To examine the fears parents, carers and professionals have about telling the child their history. To provide stage-appropriate language and learning experiences to help tell the story.

    Adoptive and foster parents who want to learn how to tell their children about their adoption; adoption professionals.

    Theme
    Theraplay® is a short-term, playful, engaging treatment that focuses on parent-child
    relationships. It can help adoptive/foster children form secure attachments. This one-day workshop
    introduces the key elements of Theraplay®. The focus will be on practical strategies that can be
    taken away and used by parents in the home, and by professionals in their practice. A qualified
    Theraplay® trainer will be on hand to work with you.
     
    Aims
    To: look at the effects of trauma and the role of play in building attachment; see video examples of Theraplay® treatment; learn lots of playful interactions to use at home or in your practice; have lots of fun!
     
    Who should attend
    Anyone who would like to know more about Theraplay®, including those who make referrals and professionals considering adding Theraplay® to their practice. This may include adoptive/foster parents, psychologists & psychiatrists, social workers, counsellors, family therapists, play therapists, teachers, occupational therapists, speech & language therapists and adoption/post adoption counsellors.
